I recently had the great experience to purchase a boat through Richard at Origin Yachts. I have owned around 15 different cruisers in my life time mostly bought through Yacht Brokers ,and subsequently sold through Yacht Brokers. This is the first time that I have been confident that the broker knows the boat , how everything works and superb customer service. We were looking for our first boat, our first interaction with Richard was while on his holiday responding to our enquiry quickly. Guidance and introductions to contacts at the marina has been a massive help to us. Quickly building a trusted relationship, giving us confidence on the start of our boating journey.
I am giving Richard at Origin Yachts 5 starts only because I can’t give him 6. Buying your first boat is not easy! I had no idea what to look for and what to avoid. Meeting a couple of uninterested brokers who would have sold me a lemon if I just took it, did not make it any easier.. then I met Richard and Sandiana II, one of the best boats I had seen. From our very first telephone conversation I knew I was dealing with a genuine nice person and somebody who prides himself in helping and giving the best service possible. Richard did not only sold me a boat, he guided me through a process I did not fully understand step by step. He did say to me: “I’ll help you as much as I can”, and he did. I knew I could trust him. He not only arranged for my new boat to have the mast taken down for transportation, but when I went to try and take the sails off for the first time he suddenly appeared and actually helped me doing it. It wasn’t an easy job, it took hours and he did not have to. Then he kept liaising with the staff at the marina where the boat was on my behalf to arrange everything so that I could find it hoisted and ready to go on the collection morning. He actually went there to check the night before to let me know all was in place. If you ever have to choose between two boats and one is in the Origin Yachts portfolio, not only it’s probably going to be the better one, but just go with Richard’s because you are guaranteed the perfect boat purchasing experience.
By far the best yacht broker you will ever meet. Communication was excellent, he organized all the trades to get the boat prepared for hand over and even offered to antifoul. If you want to sell your boat I would certainly urge you to use Richard and if you want to buy one he only sells quality. Very impressed.
Richard was great to deal with from start to finish. He helped us find the perfect boat - put us in touch with an excellent surveyor- and when a few issues arose assisted both sides in getting them dealt with smoothly.
